In December 2022, Andrea Steele asked if I’d like to do a book collaboration together. Intrigued, we met at a coffee shop on the busy Main Street in Middletown, two days before the winter solstice with pleasant weather like today. We realized we clicked like two puzzle pieces and agreed to start the research and planning for spring 2023. After miles on the road, interviews, photo shoots, emails, messages, calls, and collaboration, we enter a new season of spring and embark on the next phase - publishing! We met again in Middletown this month at the same coffee shop and just finalized our press release last week. We are targeting a publishing date of June 2024.
Today is a milestone in that we started to promote this book collaboration on social media and submit press releases.
Join us on a remarkable journey as we delve into the world of equine rescue, featuring narratives of resilience, compassion, and the unwavering bond between humans and horses.
But that's not all!
We're proud to announce that a portion of the proceeds from book sales will go directly to support equine rescue organizations, ensuring that more horses in need receive the care and sanctuary they deserve.
Stay tuned for updates, book signings, and ways to purchase “SAVED: Equine Rescues of Connecticut”!
This collaborative effort wouldn't have been possible without the incredible contributions of the advocates who generously shared their expertise and passion for equine welfare.

This is also significant in that this is my 10th anniversary with the Connecticut Draft Rescue, and I was recognized with my service award at the latest fundraiser, “Denim, Diamonds, & Drafts.
I would also like to share my post regarding this award:
I had always wanted to see Clydesdales in person. I had meant to visit the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Merrimack when I lived in New Hampshire, but never made the trip. When one of my friends shared a news article in July of 2013, a few years after I had moved to Connecticut, about five Clydesdales that had been rescued, I knew I couldn’t miss another opportunity. I finally had a chance to see the Clydesdales in person.
The news article was about the Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue. My first visit was in October of 2013. I finally saw Clydesdales in person! Their size, strength, and beauty left me awestruck. I took a few pictures and started following CDHR’s page on Facebook.
In the summer of 2014, CDHR asked if someone would like to photograph the training sessions on the Facebook page. I sent pictures I had taken the previous fall and hoped they liked them enough to let me photograph them. I was so excited about the opportunity and started at the end of July 2014.
Last night I was honored with CDHR’s 10-year service award. I am so proud of what we have accomplished this past decade. Many dreams have come true for me, the horses, and the organization. From becoming a board member for the first time, to a catalyst for my creative journey, to building CDHR’s home at Autumn Ridge Farm, to rescuing 140 horses, and finding forever homes for the majority of them. Congratulations to Dina, Doug, Kim, and Pat who also received 10-year service awards last night at Denim, Diamonds, & Drafts.
All five Clydesdale will always have a special place in my heart because they brought me to a place I love and have changed my life in so many incredible ways.
