The time since my last post is longer than I had anticipated, and there were so many creative projects and responsibilities going on at the same time that I needed to take a temporary break from this blog. I will do my best to summarize all of the key moments and topics from the past two months.
It was wonderful to have a solo show at the Clinton Art Gallery. I utilized the seaside theme since I knew that the artwork could be utilized in other solo shows during the summer show season. My photos “Good Vibes” and “sea, stones, and sand” are currently in EAA’s open show with the theme “By the Beautiful Sea”.
I was excited to win the First Place - Photography for my photo, “Fiona & the stormy skies” in the “Joy of Art” Juried Exhibition at the Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) main campus in New Britain. Fiona is a 21-year-old Percheron who was rescued by the @ctdraftrescue and I loved capturing this one with her and the dramatic sky. The exhibition runs from June 19th thru August 25th, 2023.
I was selected to be one of the 23 Finalists for the EXPRESSIONS OF MANCHESTER exhibit celebrating Manchester, CT's Bicentennial Commemoration.
My photo "Manchester View of Hartford" won one of the five Honorable Mention awards, and my photo "Blue Skies Shining on Me" was also accepted.
The show opens on Sunday, Aug. 6th (10 am -2 pm) to coincide with the annual Cruisin’ On Main car show and is expected to run through Friday, Sept. 29, 2023. The awards reception will be on Thursday, Aug. 17th from 5-8 pm; more details to come closer to the event.
I sincerely appreciate the selection committee, Jimy Avril, Traé Brooks, Lynn Damon & John Garaventa, and especially WORK_SPACE Manager, Stacey Zackin.
I spent a chunk of time reviewing the next juried shows I will be entering for consideration of acceptance. One is a gallery I have never entered before and submitted acrylic and watercolor paintings. Another is a venue I tried to get into but got rejected last year; I initially wasn't going to try again, but I got the urge to try so submitted two paintings and a photo. Today, I'm finalizing the photos to enter for another late summer show.
I enjoy talking to people about strategies, experiences, and approaches to entering juried shows, and during the past week had a handful of dynamic conversations especially as we were finalizing everything for EAA's Summer Open Show. Discussing entry fees, venues, locations, jurors, themes, what to enter, and developing connections with fellow artists and galleries. Also, some shows take all types of artistic mediums, some are painting only, and some are photo only.
This is a photo of Star from CDHR, which I finally got to edit after last week's whirlwind. Star is a Shire horse and truly exemplifies the nature of our gentle giant horsey friends. I'm shooting to enter it into one of the shows for consideration.
I also am in a show with three other magnificent artists at Hartford 21 through September! It is so motivating to be around such incredible creative artists!
I am currently working on a project with Andrea Steele regarding equine rescues and excited when I will be able to share more! There are also two more potential projects I will be working on this season and can’t wait to share once finalized!
