Wingy
aka Coffin's Beach, Wyngaerts Hoeck, Wyngaerton, Vineland, but will always be Wingy to us.
Sometimes the best therapy is time with family oceanside!
We were finally able to spend a family vacation together after many years. And not just any vacation, a place our family has been for generations, with sights, sounds, smells, and textures permanently embedded in our muscle and photographic memory. It is the glue of continuity with significant and impactful meaning. Although the houses may change and structures may be added or removed, it is like a time warp when you can distinctly remember vivid snapshots permanently embedded in your mind and bring you back to memories of our younger years. As I have mentioned before, figuratively I do believe our (Daley) blood is comprised of plasma, red & white blood cells, platelets, and Wingy. Possibly literally.
This is the first time Gary and I went on vacation without concern for pets at home. As tragic as it is to have had both of our pets cross the rainbow bridge in such a short time, there was a bittersweet relief that we didn’t have to worry about them and could enjoy a carefree break.
We had the following goals:
Go to Woodman’s.
Do a puzzle.
Enjoy the beach.
Make homemade sauce and meatballs for the fam.
Laugh, eat, drink, and be merry!
All goals were achieved!! And we started and finished not one, but two puzzles!
Effects from Hurricane Lee were felt on the final day we were there, as we lost power at 8:15 am and when trying to leave, we had to turn back because of an incident with a telephone pole that was blocking the only road out.
I ended up taking pictures and videos only with my iPhone. I decided that I wanted to be in the moment, completely mindful, and create art after the vacation. I especially loved the textured patterns of the sand, the palette of beach colors, and finding shoreline treasures along the way. One thing that I didn’t notice as much as when I was younger was the constant sound of the waves, and how it made me feel so comforted and relaxed.
I continue to be inspired by these days together and am enjoying creating new art with so many reference photos, videos, and unforgettable memories. Here are some I’d like to share:
